Movies – Star Trek Impressions
I don’t often watch movies in the cinema but I was compelled to watch this on opening day. First of all I am not a Star Trek fan because I have never watch any of the previous TV series or movies however I am a science fiction fan. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and it is up there with my favourite SF movies. The reason that I liked it so much is that it made the concepts and characters of this classic property relevant and exciting for a different generation of viewers (under 40/50 yrs). The special effects and camera work gave the film a more modern view despite the costumes and character design still displaying their antiquated origins. For the most part the dialogue and acting was well done even though some areas felt awkward. The plot is a prequel and very friendly to anyone not familiar with Star Trek. I would recommend this film to anybody remotely interested in SF.
Scotty (Simon Pegg), McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhara (Zoe Saldana), Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Sulu (John Cho) and Chekov (Anton Zelchin)
The main actors Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine have been mostly in TV and smaller roles, it is encouraging to see them do well in big movie role. Simon Pegg was hilarious as Scotty who is introduced later in the film. It’s nice to see Karl Urban & John Cho as prominent side character as they played their parts well.
